LOS ANGELES, CA (March 12, 2018) – Greenland USA, a leading developer of residential and commercial properties, today announced that two of the company’s development projects–Phase 1 of Metropolis in Los Angeles, 550 Vanderbilt and 535 Carlton at Pacific Park Brooklyn in New York–have received LEED Silver Certification for sustainability from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
USGBC’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a certification program that provides independent verification of a building’s green features. Buildings applying for LEED certification are evaluated and receive points based on nine basic areas of sustainability. The nine areas include integrative process, location and transportation, sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality, innovation regional priority.
550 Vanderbilt, is a 17-story market rate condominium building with 278 apartments that range from studios to four-bedroom units, and include duplexes, penthouses and maisonettes that come with private entrances. 535 Carlton is 100% affordable apartment building with 298 homes reserved for New Yorkers with household incomes of between $20,100 for an individual and $149,000 for a family of three. Phase 1 of Metropolis includes Hotel Indigo and Tower I, a 38-floor condominium tower offering a collection of designer-appointed studios and 1 and 2-bedroom condominiums and penthouses.
At both these projects, Greenland USA used natural and sustainable materials wherever possible; finishes, paints, and fabrics that meet low volatile organic compounds (VOC) standards and interior air quality is vastly improved through sophisticated air filtration systems. FSC-certified wood, natural stone, and sustainable materials reduce the building’s impact on the environment. These principles are carried through to the building’s exterior as well, through significant planted space, which will reduce the urban heat island effect and encourage storm-water retention.
“Greenland USA’s LEED certification demonstrates tremendous green building leadership,” said Mahesh Ramanujam, president and CEO, USGBC. “LEED was created to make the world a better place and revolutionize the built environment by providing everyone with a healthy, green and high performing buildings. Greenland USA serves as a prime example of how the work of innovative building projects can use local solutions to make a global impact on the environment.”
“We are committed to environmentally conscious design and operations that uses its resources wisely and are honored to be recognized by LEED for being good stewards of the environment,” said HU Gang, President and CEO of Greenland USA. “We will continue to find ways to design and construct resource-efficient buildings, which not only reduces our operating costs, but also helps us in reducing the overall carbon impact of our developments.”
Metropolis is a more-than $1 billion, 6.3-acre, luxury, mixed-use property poised to elevate the standard of urban living in Los Angeles. Built on one of the last substantial parcels of undeveloped land in downtown Los Angeles, it is comprised of three residential towers, Hotel Indigo and retail space, all encompassed in towers reaching 18- to 56-stories high. The second phase, which includes a curated retail experience and Residential Towers II and III, is slated for completion in 2019.
Pacific Park Brooklyn is a mixed-use neighborhood, which when complete, will include 14 new residential buildings, one million square feet of commercial space, 250,000 square feet of new retail stores and restaurants and eight landscaped acres of publicly accessible open space, all within three miles of Lower Manhattan. Pacific Park is anchored by Barclays Center, the world-renowned arena designed by SHoP Architects, and is hyper-connected, sitting on twelve subway lines, sixteen bus lines and the Long Island Railroad.
